- As of 12 am, there were 962 additional new cases of COVID-19 with a statewide total of 104,358 who have tested positive in all 67 counties
- 7,079 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19
- State Assistance Available Now and After $600 Federal Unemployment Benefit Ends Saturday: With the additional $600 federal unemployment benefit about to end, the Departments of Labor & Industry (L&I) and Human Services (DHS) are reminding Pennsylvanians that other state programs are available. The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which funds the extra $600 in unemployment compensation each week, ends July 25 unless extended by the federal government. - Gov. Wolf: Reinsurance Program Application Receives Federal Approval: Governor Tom Wolf announced that the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the U.S. Department of the Treasury have approved Pennsylvania’s Section 1332 Waiver application for a reinsurance program. Pennsylvania’s Reinsurance Program (PA Re) is authorized to operate under section 1332 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) from 2021 through 2025. - Wolf Administration Announces Additional Technology Industry Funding: Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin, in partnership with the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority (BFTDA), awarded nearly $1.5 million in grants to each of the four Ben Franklin Technology Partners (BFTPs), which will provide funds to businesses for access to capital, business expertise, and technology commercialization services to advance the development of new technologies. - Gov. Wolf Signs First Responders Bill, Other Legislation: Governor Tom Wolf signed several bills into law including HB 1459, which establishes a mental wellness and stress management program for emergency responders who experience post-traumatic stress injuries or traumatic brain injuries on the job. - There are 573 past or present hospitalizations (+22). In the newest cases (tested July 6 through July 23), ages range from 2 months to 97 years with the median age being 42. All deaths to date are of individuals ranging in age from 23-103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died.
- Allegheny County Department of Health announced the creation a COVID Field Response Team which began work Thursday, July 23, 2020. Consisting of 10 team members who are contracting with the county, the COVID Field Response Team (COVID-FRT) will visit businesses in the community, check to see if establishments are following business safety precautions including the state’s universal masking order, recent orders regarding bars and restaurants, occupancy restrictions and physical distancing requirements

- White House privately warns Pittsburgh, 10 other cities must take ‘aggressive’ action against COVID-19: Dr. Deborah Birx, a leader of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, warned state and local leaders in a private phone call Wednesday that 11 major cities are seeing increases in the percentage of tests coming back positive for COVID-19 and should take “aggressive” steps to mitigate their outbreaks. The cities she identified were Baltimore, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
