Regional Coronavirus Update
- Additional stay at home order issued by Gov. Wolf for Butler County and Westmoreland County. Effective tonight (3/27/20) at 8pm and to continue to 4/6/20.
Allegheny County
- 545 discharged from Allegheny County Jail to mitigate spread.
- According to ACHD officials there are 25 new cases of COVID-19 in the county, bringing the total to 158 active cases.
Westmoreland County:
- County commissioners announced the furlough of 500 nonessential Westmoreland County government employees on April 3. This is in response to balancing vital government functions during the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing budgetary concerns complicated by large overtime payments to essential employees who were required to work the past two weeks.
- Westmoreland County transit officials will further reduce commuter and local bus service starting March 30 as ridership has dropped about 80% over the last two weeks amid the coronavirus pandemic and the commuter service to downtown Pittsburgh has barely any passengers. The revised bus schedule can be found at https://www.westmorelandtransit.com/.
- Gov. Wolf’s stay-at-home order has now extended to include Westmoreland County.
Federal Coronavirus Update
House of Representatives:
- The House of Representatives approved the CARES Act, a $2 trillion stimulus package that passed the Senate earlier this week.
- Congressman Mike Kelly (R-Butler) announced he tested positive for COVID-19.
The White House
- Trump Administration officials are working to finalize options to present to the President related to the next phase of national guidelines on coronavirus related to the President’s goals of reopening the economy.
- S. Surgeon General
- Dr. Jerome Adams, the U.S. Surgeon General, warned that some states will still be battling coronavirus by Labor Day. He became the latest expert to discredit the president’s Easter deadline to stamp out the virus.
Department of Homeland Security
- The department recently launched and continues to update a new, living document that agency officials can use as a reference tool to inform the choices they must make in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Upon recognizing that there’s a range of knowledge gaps about the novel coronavirus itself that directly impact DHS’ policies and operations—and America’s entire medical emergency response community-at-large—the department created and released a Master Question List, or MQL. According to the latest version published March 26, the document quickly summarizes what is known, what additional information is needed, and who may be working to address” fundamental questions about COVID-19. The MQL will be updated as needed when new information becomes available.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Apple is launching a new app and website to help inform Americans about how to stay safe and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Apple partnered with the CDC, FEMA and the Coronavirus Task Force to develop the COVID-19 app and website.
