  • Gov. Wolf: PA is One of Three States Recognized by CDC for COVID-19 Reduction Success: As states across the country begin to reopen and nearly half are seeing COVID-19 cases rise, Governor Tom Wolf announced Friday that Pennsylvania is not one of them. Wednesday June 17, at a daily COVID briefing with Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, he noted another milestone: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention proprietary data for states indicates that Pennsylvania is one of just three states that has had a downward trajectory of COVID-19 cases for more than 42 days.   • Gov. Wolf: Four Universities Receive Funding for COVID-19 Response Through Manufacturing Innovation Challenge: Governor Tom Wolf announced the seven project awardees of $174,603 in new funding through the Manufacturing PA Innovation Program COVID-19 Challenge to address the commonwealth’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.   • Gov. Wolf: $157.5 Million Now Available for School Health and Safety Grants to Address COVID-19: Governor Tom Wolf announced that The School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) has approved the opening of two funding announcements totaling $157.5 million that school entities are immediately eligible to apply for to address COVID-19-related health and safety needs for the 2020-2021 school year.   • Gov. Wolf Announces $40 Million in CARES Act Funding Available to Address Dairy Industry Relief, Food Security: Governor Wolf announced the availability of $40 million in funding through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to support Pennsylvania’s dairy industry and food security programs, following months of uncertainty and loss from the COVID-19 pandemic.   • L&I Secretary: Governor Wolf’s Disaster Declaration Needed to Help People Out of Work, Reduce Employer Costs: Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Jerry Oleksiak highlighted the importance of Governor Tom Wolf’s disaster declaration to help Pennsylvanians who are out of work get the unemployment compensation benefits they deserve and reduce costs for employers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Regional Coronavirus Updates

  • Allegheny County Department of Health
    • Of the 2,122 cases in Allegheny County, 1,987 are confirmed and 135 are probable cases. Additionally, there are 361 past or present hospitalizations (+3). To date, there have also been 177 deaths (no change). Of those, 165 are confirmed and 12 are probable. All deaths are of individuals ranging in age from 42-103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died.
  • Allegheny County Council Committee on Public Safety
    • Allegheny County Council’s Committee on Public Safety has given a negative recommendation to universal COVID-19 testing in the Allegheny County Jail and the Kane Regional Centers. The bill, sponsored by members Bethany Hallam, D-at large, and Olivia Bennett, D-Northview Heights, was introduced on May 19 and was held in committee June 3. Ms. Hallam and Ms. Bennett on Wednesday voted in favor of an affirmative recommendation.

 

National Coronavirus Updates

  • According to CNN, as of 12:00pm on Thursday, June 18, 2020, there are 117,832 coronavirus-related deaths and 2,168,414 total positive cases in the United States.
