- Gov. Wolf Announces $260 Million in Funding to Help People with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism During Pandemic: Governor Tom Wolf announced that people with intellectual disabilities and autism and the providers of support services for these vulnerable Pennsylvanians will receive $260 million in CARES Act funding to help continue to provide services during the COVID-19 pandemic. - Gov. Wolf Announces $40 Million in CARES Act Funding Available to Address Dairy Industry Relief, Food Security: Governor Wolf announced the availability of $40 million in funding through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to support Pennsylvania’s dairy industry and food security programs, following months of uncertainty and loss from the COVID-19 pandemic. - Gov. Wolf: Funding Awarded to Support Affordable Housing Projects in 17 Counties: Governor Tom Wolf announced more than $10 million in funding through the federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) to support affordable housing projects across the commonwealth. Regional Coronavirus Updates
- Allegheny County Department of Health
- Of the 2,113 cases in Allegheny County, 1,979 are confirmed and 134 are probable cases. Additionally, there are 357 past or present hospitalizations (no change). All deaths are of individuals ranging in age from 42-103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died.
- Restaurant Inspections
- The Allegheny County Health Department has resumed inspections of restaurant kitchens and other food facilities following the county’s move into the “green phase” of the state’s pandemic reopening plan. Routine inspections had been on hold during the lockdown when restaurants were limited to take-out and delivery service. During that time, health inspectors spent most of their shifts on the phone going over coronavirus-related safety protocols with restaurants. The department also continued to perform on-site visits in response to any consumer complaints.
Federal Coronavirus Updates
- National Institutes of Health
- The National Institutes of Health has launched a national database to collect medical information on coronavirus patients in the United States. The NIH said the platform data will include clinical, laboratory and diagnostic information from hospitals, labs and other health care providers. The database will help researchers and health care providers answer critical questions relating to COVID-19 illness. The only identifying data on the platform will include the zip code of the health care group providing the information and the dates of service. No other personal patient information will appear on the site. Only approved users will be able to access the site and they can only study the information while on the platform and only for COVID-19 research and public health surveillance.
- U.S. Department of Commerce
- With business restrictions starting to be loosened, retail sales in the country increased 17.7% in May according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Consensus estimates from economists projected an 8% increase. While the rebound from April was notable, overall sales were still down 8 percent from February.
National Coronavirus Updates
- Canada announced Tuesday June 16 that by mutual agreement, the US-Canada border will remain closed to all but essential travel until at least July 21. The border has been closed since March 21, and the closures have been extended three times. Under the arrangement, essential workers may still cross the border, but others are prohibited from discretionary travel, including most family visits.
- According to CNN, as of 12:45pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, there are 116,341 coronavirus-related deaths and 2,119,912 total positive cases in the United States.
