State Coronavirus Updates
- Gov. Wolf: Eight More Counties Going Green on June 19: Governor Tom Wolf announced that eight more counties will move to the green phase of reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 19. These counties include Dauphin, Franklin, Huntingdon, Luzerne, Monroe, Perry, Pike, and Schuylkill. Effective Friday, June 12, there are 46 counties in green and 21 in yellow. - State System advances a framework for campus operations in the Fall: The Board of Governors for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education approved a framework Wednesday to guide operations of the system’s 14 universities for the upcoming Fall semester, marking a significant milestone since the coronavirus pandemic began. - Gov. Wolf Announces 10 More Testing Sites in Areas with Limited Access: Governor Tom Wolf announced that beginning Wednesday, June 17, nine more COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites will open in Walmart parking lots across the state, bringing the total to 19 sites at Walmart locations. Quest Diagnostics and Walmart are working with the department to provide no-cost testing for residents living in areas where there are fewer testing sites. Another testing site has also been added in Venango County, which previously had only one site, bringing the total of new testing sites to 10. Wolf: State’s Measured, Phased Reopening Plan Succeeding as Other States See Cases Rise: As Pennsylvania continues to implement Governor Tom Wolf’s Process to Reopen PA, the state is also among a select few with a steady decline in cases, a positive indicator that the state’s phased, measured reopening plan is working to balance public health with economic recovery. Regional Coronavirus Updates
- Allegheny County Department of Health
- Of the 2,086 cases in Allegheny County, 1,953 are confirmed and 133 are probable cases. Of the 2,086 cases, 289 cases are in healthcare workers. This reflects 14% of the COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County. The Health Department thanks all of our frontline workers for keeping us healthy and safe. Additionally, there are 357 past or present hospitalizations (no change). All deaths are of individuals ranging in age from 42-103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died.
Federal Coronavirus Updates
- Food and Drug Administration
- The US Food and Drug Administration has revoked its emergency use authorization for the drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19. After reviewing the current research available on the drugs, the FDA determined that the drugs do not meet “the statutory criteria” for emergency use authorization as they are unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19 based on the latest scientific evidence. The FDA’s emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine was narrow in scope, applying only to hospitalized COVID-19 patients and only to drugs donated to the Strategic National Stockpile.
