PRA Partnership is Named National “Top 10 Economic Development Organization”

Pittsburgh, PA

The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) Partnership has again been named one of the nation’s Top 10 economic development organizations by Site Selection magazine, based on a range of criteria including total capital investment, jobs created, diversity of projects and the contributions of regional economic development partners. In addition, among 400 cities worldwide, Pittsburgh was deemed No. 9 among fDi magazine’s “North American Cities of the Future 2009/10,” gaining particular recognition for its foreign direct investment strategy and human resources.

Recently, the PRA Partnership announced its 2008 inventory of regional economic development “wins.” Despite the economic downturn, it was a noteworthy year that included $4+ billion in capital investment and 290 corporate expansion, relocation and development projects. These are expected to create, over time, some 13,200 new regional jobs and retain more than 17,000 – a total employment impact of more than 30,000 jobs. While being the fDi (a Financial Times publication) No. 9 “North American City of the Future” (large city category), the region was recognized as having the No. 2 best human resources, the No. 4 best foreign direct investment strategy and the No. 2 largest number of post-secondary students.
